The Department of Surgery at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital/MedStar Regional Breast Health Program seeks to recruit an outstanding academic breast surgeon to lead the robust MedStar Regional Breast Health Program in our nation’s Capital. Our core mission is to serve our patients, those who cares for them, and our community at large.
Expertise in the area of breast cancer and benign breast diseases is a must. Fellowship training in breast oncology and expertise in clinical trials are also highly desired. Applicants must possess an MD or equivalent and certification by the American Board of Surgery (or eligible for certification). Academic appointment and rank at Georgetown University School of Medicine will be commensurate with education and experience.
In line with our vision to be the trusted leader in caring for people and advancing health, this position carries responsibilities in operative and non-operative care of patients with diseases of the breast and clinical research as well as undergraduate and graduate medical education and the training of residents and fellows. The candidate will further assure quality care, efficient resource management, service excellence, and maintenance of accreditation for the Ourisman Breast Center (NAPBC).
The successful candidate will join an internationally renowned multi-disciplinary breast cancer program dedicated to translational breast cancer care and research. The program is based within the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, the only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in the Washington area. Further, the successful candidate can leverage research and education resources available through Lombardi’s highly funded Cancer Prevention and Control Program, MedStar Health Research Institute, MedStar Institute for Innovation, and MedStar-Georgetown Surgical Outcomes Research Center. The clinical position will be based at the Betty Lou Ourisman Breast Care Center at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. The Ourisman Center is a newly renovated, state-of-the-art breast center with a designated team of interdisciplinary breast professionals working in coordination with each other to offer seamless, confident, accurate, and efficient management of breast care. The MedStar Regional Breast Care Program comprises interdisciplinary care platforms at two academic, three community hospitals, and an ambulatory care facility in Washington, D.C. and southern Maryland. At its core is a team of experienced leaders in breast surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, breast imaging and plastic surgery. We also offer genetic counseling and testing, cancer rehabilitation and survivorship programs and high-risk services.
