Job Opportunity: Academic Plastic Surgeon

The Department of Surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is seeking a full-time academic Plastic Surgeon to join our esteemed faculty. As a major training site for the UCLA Plastic Surgery Residency, we offer an exceptional opportunity for a highly qualified individual to make a meaningful impact in patient care, surgical education, and research.
About Us: Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is a high-volume Level 1 trauma center and academic teaching hospital affiliated with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Our hospital is a safety net hospital that is part of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, and serves a diverse, underserved patient population. A state-of-the-art new hospital is currently under construction and is slated to be open in 2027. The Department of Surgery has 13 divisions. The Division of Plastic Surgery is comprised of three full-time plastic surgeons with specialized qualifications in microsurgery, craniofacial surgery, and hand surgery.
Our division offers a full scope of general plastic surgery, craniofacial surgery, hand surgery, and pediatric plastic surgery. Faculty within the Plastic Surgery division provide the full spectrum of Plastic Surgery care, including advanced microsurgical reconstructions for head and neck cancer, breast reconstruction, lymphedema, and trauma-related injuries of the upper and lower extremities, hand and face. Additionally, we are actively expanding our practice to provide a full spectrum of transgender care. Preference will be given to candidates with fellowship training in Microsurgery. Strong consideration will be given to candidates with demonstrated leadership, a strong history of scholarly research, interest in working with an underserved population, and evidence of excellence in surgical education.
Teaching & Collaboration: Teaching is a core component of our practice. We work closely with plastic surgery residents from the UCLA Plastic Surgery Residency Program, the general surgery residents at Harbor-UCLA, as well as the UCLA microsurgery fellow for complex cases. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to our educational programs and work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Qualifications:
M.D. or D.O. degree
Completion of an ACGME-accredited plastic surgery residency program
Board-certified or board-eligible by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS)
Fellowship training in microsurgery
Eligible for a California medical license
Commitment to working in a high-acuity, Level 1 trauma center
Dedication to fellow, resident and medical student education
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to patient care
Strong interest in caring for an underserved community
Evidence of research accomplishments
A recommendation for an academic appointment to the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level will be made, commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
