New Chair for the Department of Surgery

Tufts Medical Center and Tufts University School of Medicine, in Boston, MA, seeks a new Chair, for the Department of Surgery. The Chair will oversee all activities related to the staff, surgeons, and the operating room to include surgical outcomes. The Chair will also be responsible for leading all teaching and research activities within the Department, including medical students and graduate medical educational programs. The Chair will be charged with implementing a strategic vision for the Department with a strong focus on our Wellforce partners and growth.

Interested physician candidates should have a track record of personal academic accomplishments, demonstrated successful administrative and leadership experience at an academic institution as the Department Chair, Division Chief or Section Head, and possess credentials to include:

  • Board Certification in General Surgery and/or added qualifications and boards in a subspecialty area

  • Ability to meet the requirements for an academic appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level

  • Keen understanding for developing and leading ACGME accredited residency programs

  • Previous experience in healthcare quality, resource management, outcomes improvement, patient safety, and positive patient experience

  • 5 plus years track record of success in surgical leadership within an academic institution

  • Political savvy, emotional intelligence, and the ability to interact within all levels of system level management

  • Keen focus on network development, growth, operational efficiency and integration.

The Department of Surgery At Tufts Medical Center consists of 7 divisions which include: Thoracic Surgery, Trauma Surgery and Emergency Surgical Services, Kidney Transplant, Colorectal Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, Onco-Plastic Surgery and Surgical Oncology. Currently, we have 20 faculty members and are actively growing many of these programs and adding new faculty to cover our growing services at Tufts and with our Wellforce community partners.

Tufts Medical Center, a 410 bed ACS Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma center, is the academic hub of the Wellforce Health System.
