The Department of Surgery at Upstate Medical University has an exciting opportunity for an experienced, dynamic academic surgeon to provide leadership as the Division Chief of Acute Care Surgery (Trauma, Emergency Surgery and Surgical Critical Care). Upstate Medical University is a two-campus 715 bed multidisciplinary, academic medical center which serves as the tertiary care referral center for Syracuse and the Central New York region. Upstate is an ACS verified Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center which provides trauma care, emergency general surgery, critical care and burn surgery services to the Central NY region. The adult trauma program at Upstate is one of NY state’s busiest trauma centers serving 14 counties with 1.7 million inhabitants and caring for over 3,000 adult trauma cases a year with consistent programmatic growth.
The Department of Surgery is committed to recruiting high-quality faculty to provide state of the art surgical services for the patients of Central New York in a collaborative academic environment. The successful candidate will provide leadership to an outstanding team of eight surgeons, multiple advance practice providers, surgery residents, nurses and students in providing Acute Care Surgery services at Upstate University Hospital. Board-certification in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care or appropriate experience is required. Teaching medical students, training surgery residents and mentoring junior faculty is an integral part of the job. Candidates are expected to have a track record of academic productivity in outcomes or basic research. Academic appointment will be commensurate with the candidate’s academic record and an endowed professorship will be considered for exceptional candidates.
