Assistant, Associate or Professor WOT - Academic Trauma and Burn Surgeon with Education Focus

ACADEMIC TRAUMA AND BURN SURGEON WITH EDUCATION FOCUS

The Division of Trauma, Burn & Critical Care Surgery, Department of Surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine invites applications for a full-time academic Trauma/Burn surgeon at the rank of Assistant Professor without tenure by reason of funding (WOT), or Associate Professor WOT, or Professor WOT. Appointments as Assistant Professor WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments and Associate Professor WOT and Professor WOT hold indefinite appointments that all align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. This full-time position will be located at Harborview Medical Center. Salary and academic appointment at the University of Washington will be commensurate with training, qualifications, experience, and academic rank. The anticipated start date will be in Summer 2024. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.


This position includes a significant Associate Program Director (APD) leadership role in the General Surgery Residency Program at Harborview Medical Center (HMC), with protected time for education-related administrative activities commensurate with the role. The successful candidate will be expected to oversee the educational experience for ~30 UW Department of Surgery residents and ~85 visiting residents across four specific services at HMC. The site APD will also act as liaison to Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Programs and Medical Director’s office regarding manpower issues.


Clinical activities will include trauma and burn surgery, surgical intensive care, and elective general surgery working as a full-time member of the Division of Trauma, Burn and Critical Care Surgery at Harborview Medical Center. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, completion of a Burn Fellowship or comparable burn care experience.


Prospective candidates must have MD, or DO (or foreign equivalent). Required qualifications also include general surgery residency training, and board certification or eligible to achieve certification by the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care (or foreign equivalent). Must be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Washington.


In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.


The base salary range for this position will be: Assistant Professor range $29,167_ - $30,834 per month, ($350,004K to $370,008K_ annually), Associate Professor range $31,667_ - $35,833 per month, ($380,004K__ to $430,008K_ annually), Professor range $37,500 - $39,167 per month, ($450,000K_ to $470,004K_ annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications. This range represents base salary only and is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan and the University of Washington. Additional compensation above base salary is available through participation in the variable incentive distribution plan, with an initial guaranteed component upon hire. Benefits for this position are offered through both the University of Washington and the University of Washington Physicians.
