Breast Surgical Oncologist

Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN is conducting a search for a full-time breast surgical oncologist to join our thriving surgical practice. Board-certified/board-eligible surgeons at all levels of experience are encouraged to apply. Our busy and growing breast surgery practice is supported by a multidisciplinary team that encompasses all aspects of treatment for benign and malignant breast disease as well as management of high-risk patients. Mayo Clinic Rochester sees over 1,200 new breast patients per year and performs a similar number of breast operations annually. Patients are initially evaluated by internists specializing in breast disease in a dedicated breast clinic. This collaboration allows the breast surgeons to be highly efficient with greater than 80% of surgical consultations resulting in operative management. We have a strong multidisciplinary breast team with dedicated breast reconstructive surgeons, breast medical oncologists and breast radiation oncologists.


All complex patients and candidates for neoadjuvant therapy are seen in the multidisciplinary clinic. We have a robust collaborative integrated clinical and research practice with a large portfolio of clinical trials. Research opportunities abound related to malignant and benign breast disease, and span the range of clinical, translational, and basic sciences.

The ideal candidate for this position is an excellent clinical breast surgeon with passion and experience in research, innovation and/or education. We extend this opportunity to a board-certified or board-eligible general surgeon who has successfully completed fellowship training in breast surgical oncology or complex general surgical oncology

The position includes participation in educational efforts for the ACGME-accredited general surgery residency program, as well as training our three breast surgical oncology fellows and a complex general surgical oncology fellow.

Our center has significant infrastructure and the collaborative atmosphere to support an individual’s professional pursuits in any domain, including research, innovation, education, and niches within the clinical practice.

License or Certification:

Board-certified or board-eligible in General Surgery with Breast Surgical Oncology or Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellowship and eligible for medical licensure in Minnesota.
